Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
On a scarlet rectangle arched at top and bottom is a yellow stylized missile centered vertically, resting on the missiles nose is a blue punch of palmetto leaves surmounted by a white crescent moon, on the right side of the missile is a stack of three black cannon balls; all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border.  The overall dimensions are 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 inches (5.08 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Scarlet and yellow are the colors used for Artillery.  The stylized missile represents the type of weapon systems employed by the Brigade.  The three cannon balls denote the weapons employed in the past.  The blue palmetto bunch with the white crescent moon are associated with the South Carolina state flag and represent the home of the unit.

Background

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall blazoned as follows:  Gules, on a fess Or four demi-columns Brn, in base a missile and cannon saltirewise nose and muzzle points upward of the second, on a canton Azure a demi-palmetto of the second surmounted by a crescent moon Argent.  Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed FOR FREEDOM, WE DEFEND in Blue.

Symbolism
Scarlet and yellow are the colors used for Artillery.  The four demi-columns symbolize the four pillars of democracy:  justice, equality, freedoms and representation.  The stylized missile represents the type of weapon systems employed by the Brigade and the cannon alludes to the origins of US Army firepower.  The blue palmetto bunch with white crescent moon are associated with the South Carolina state flag and represent the home of the unit.
